For our Signature Collection, we don't just randomly pick a scent and throw it into wax. We develop fragrances from concepts - what we want them to smell like, how we want them to feel or act
We use a lot of different oils to create unique, custom fragrances, then we tweak them until they're perfect. It can take multiple rounds of testing and weeks or even months of work before we get a scent just right.

1. Blend: First we begin the process of putting different fragrance oils together to create a unique blend of scent with a certain personality. Only rarely will we make a blend that we immediately love. We begin with a basic foundation to work from, something simple that we know we can improve on as we begin to test our blend.

2. Adjust: From here we begin the long and often tedious process of adjusting our blend. We might eliminate an entire fragrance or add a new one if we feel an adjustment is needed. Our blends can go through dozens of alterations before we get to the place where we're happy with how the scent is shaping up.

3. Test: Often times a fragrance will act very different in wax than it does straight from the bottle, which is why we do multiple rounds of testing. We want to know how the candle behaves as it burns and how the room reacts to it, from cold to hot scent throw and everything in between.

4. Refine: Once we've achieved a blend that behaves well as a candle, we continue to refine and tweak it until we're not only happy with how it smells, but how it performs. It can take many subtle alterations to accomplish this so we work slowly. A given blend can take minutes or even months to finalize. How long it takes greatly depends on how quickly we can get the blend just right.

It's a long process but it's a vital part of what makes an Old Orchard Original what it is. We put a lot of time into each candle, and we think you'll notice the difference in quality. We don't want to rush the process just to have an Old Orchard Original out on shelves. When an Old Orchard Original is done, it means we've reached the point where we truly have something special.
